THE GALLERY | A SANCTUARY OF ART
The first ad that ran for Watson MacRae Gallery in 2008 when the gallery opened contained a quote by John Updike. Not a quote I found, but one that has been a compass for the gallery ever since.
“What art offers is space – a certain breathing room for the spirit.”
As owner and director, I travel the country and the Internet in search of art that fulfills Updike’s decree. Whether paintings, sculpture or contemporary crafts, my quest is for work that is exceptional in execution, visually arresting and emotionally evocative.
I like best when someone says “That’s wonderful. I’ve never seen anything like that before.”
Watson MacRae Gallery features nationally and regionally acclaimed artists who create high quality, unusual pieces that are imbued with an energy or spirit – artwork with soul.
With more than 50 exhibitions behind us, we continue to challenge ourselves to present beautiful, unique work from masterful contemporary artists that inspires, excites and transports.
In September of 2016, we moved to a new space at the very front of the plaza. This new space was designed specifically to showcase artwork and the gallery itself is an architectural gem. With towering walls, unexpected recesses, beamed ceilings, it is bathed in natural light and painted Hint of Violet. This gallery is elegant yet warm and welcoming.
A new exhibition opens every month during season, November through April, and always with a fabulous reception – always a Tuesday, always 5-7pm. We invite you to visit!
