WOMEN'S STORIES: LOVE, LIFE AND DREAMS
Original Exhibit Dates: February 2 to 27, 2010
In honor of Womens History Month, Watson MacRae Gallery presents its new exhibit, Womens Stories: Love, Life and Dreams".
This exhibit brings together the work of five artists from different parts of the country (two from Sanibel) that through their art tell stories of women both personal and archetypical.
Houston artist, Sandra Yorks dreamlike abstract paintings are quiet meditations on aging and unexpected change. The ceramists, Melisa Cadell from Penland, NC and Kim Alderman from Woodstock, NY employ their clay very differently. Cadell creates evocative figurative work, while Alderman builds abstract iconic pieces. The two Sanibel artists, who are exhibiting for the first time, express their feelings about relationships. Textile artist Linda Green uses fabric, beading and stitching to create her story portraits and emerging artist, Leila Walkers small sculptures interact with each other and with us.
The work in this exhibit is varied, exciting and moving just like the lives of women. Shown together they present a compelling story.
