THREE VIEWS: PAPER, PAINT & WAX

Original Exhibit Dates: April 1 to 30, 2010

Our eleventh exhibit featured the exciting work of three artists who live and work much of the year on Sanibel Island – paper collage by Anne Gates Yarnall, paintings by Hollis Jeffcoat and the encaustic works of Elizabeth Lambert.

Anne Gates Yarnall, a native of Philadelphia, has adventured to many wild and exotic places over the years, and the collages in this exhibit capture her travels in bits of paper that, under her practiced hand and artistic eye, become amazing abstractions.

New work by Hollis Jeffcoat, painted on Sanibel Island, showcased the vibrancy of the Florida color and light found in her earlier work, and there is a quality to the new imagery that is both mysterious and familiar.

Canadian encaustic painter Elizabeth Lambert carries on the ancient method of painting with hot wax, and her dexterity and artistry with this technique enable her to create textured surfaces that add depth and atmosphere to her landscapes, and flattened areas to form silhouettes in her figurative work.
